Acrylic on canvas

The beautiful purity of pure white lilies against the abstract sea-side coloured background, forms a vivid and bold image that is emphasized by the huge scale of the work. It brings the viewer up-close and gives a very personal view into a creation so simple, yet so intricate… a lily of the valley.
This work was born out of my reflection on how something SO beautiful can grow out of the ‘valley’. In this context, valley references a place of difficulty, hardship and stress, a shadowy valley… yet from this, can arise something breath-takingly beautiful and pure.
Through the translucent petals, you get to glimpse traces of its origin and background, but rather than detract from the lilies’ beauty, it adds even more character and emphasizes a strength that belies the delicacy of the blooms.
Wonderous peace, growth and beauty is born from difficulty. And I’m reminded – even the lily of the valley is clothed and provided for by God’s hand.
