Springtime in the mist

Acrylic on canvas
60cm x 90cm

‘Springtime’ signified a new season in my life, but it needed to become softened, lightened, with less defined edges. Blossoms were softly enveloped in a shimmering misty haze – like an early Spring morning when the mist rolls in and settles in the valleys and hollows, and the play of light captivates my heart.

The painting transformed into a beautiful white-on-white rendition that retains the original pink, grey and white palette, but in whiter shades and movement of mist. This has highlighted the textural element in the work – especially the breath. Breath within air bubbles that became embedded within the painted blossoms. It’s a collaboration between me, nature, breath, Spirit, water… elements of The Retreat’s land, air and water, plus my hands. And paint. And breath. And the Spirit of God. Who gives the breath of life.

So… new life has been breathed into ‘Springtime.’

And it is finished.
